Aquest llibre ofereix la primera revisió en forma de volum monogràfic de les transferències culturals de Gran Bretanya a Espanya al segle XVIII, centrant-se en particular en el gènere més nou de el set-cents, la pódica. Per a això, explora el fenomen fins ara difús de la anglomania – moda de les idees, influències i estils anglesos que va dominar l’Europa de l’set-cents – i el seu fenomen oposat, la anglofobia, en tres tipus de premsa ben diferenciats, tot això en conjunció amb la pròpia conjuntura nacional i el programa de reformes borbònic. A més, aquesta obra emfatitza la tasca d’aquests periodistes i periòdics, així com les seves connexions amb el poder, alhora que els situa com a agents fonamentals d’aquesta xarxa europea d’intercanvis materials i intel·lectuals que va sustentar la República de les Lletres. Amb tot això, aquest volum contribueix a la sèrie de debats dedicats a la reavaluació de la Il·lustració espanyola que busquen situar-la al mapa de les Llums Europees de llavors i d’ara.

This book constitutes the first monographic study of the cultural transfers from Great Britain to Spain through 18th-Century Periodical press, one of the most innovative gèneres of the period. It exploresthe Notion of anglomania – the craze for all things English which spread throughout all Europe – and its reactivi phenomenon, anglophobia, offering a contextualised analysis of the transmission, reception and adaptation of BritishEnlightened idees and reforms in three different types of Spanish periodicals. In so doing, this volume brings to the fore the work of some understudied writers and Journalists and situates these important periodicals and their connections to power as a key part of a wider European context of material and intellectual Exchanges that sustained the Republic of Letters. This in turn, contributes to recent scholarship arguing for a central place of Spain in the intellectual map of the Enlightenment.
